Documentation
This document explains how data export and backups work in VeilVault.
VeilVault is a security-first, offline-only password vault developed by CodeVeil.
VeilVault does not perform automatic backups.
Backup responsibility belongs to the user.
Because VeilVault operates without cloud sync or remote storage:
Exports are the only way to create a backup of your data.
Export functionality is always available:
VeilVault never locks users out of their data without an export path.
VeilVault supports exporting vault data in a standard, portable format.
VeilVault does not automatically upload, encrypt, or sync exported data.
Exported data leaves the protection of the encrypted vault.
Users should understand that:
VeilVault cannot protect exported data once it leaves the app.
Users who rely on VeilVault should consider:
Backup strategy is a user decision.
After a successful import or transfer, users may want to review where the exported file is stored.
Exported files can remain in locations such as temporary folders or download directories, which may not be intended for long-term storage.
Users are responsible for deciding whether to retain, move, secure, or delete exported data after use.
When moving to a new device:
VeilVault does not automatically migrate data between devices.
VeilVault does not:
These behaviors are intentionally excluded.
VeilVault prioritizes user control over automated convenience.
